Be Prepared to Be Quizzed!

The Guide Branch of the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA) will hold a Centenary Quiz for Girl Guides on 20th March 2010 at Girl Guide Headquarters in Colombo. The Centenary Quiz will feature questions on the SLGGA’s educational programme and the hundred year history of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) which was established in 1910. Girl Guides from 7 provinces of the island excluding the North and East will participate in this event.

The Chief Guest on this nail-biting and memorable occasion will be Ms Ramya Jirasinghe, Programme Officer, US-SL Fulbright Commission. Prizes for the contestants have been donated by Sarasavi Bookshop.

  Revisiting the Role of Women in Challenging Professions …

The Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association (SLGGA) commemorated the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day by organizing a panel discussion on the “Role of Women in Challenging Professions” for G.C.E. O’level and A’level students in the Homagama Zone of the Western Province.
The panel discussion was designed to give the students an opportunity to look at the difficulties and challenges faced by women in traditionally male-dominated professions, and the difference Girl Guiding made in terms of empowerment. Over 700 students attended the 2-hour panel discussion which was held on 9th March 2010 at Homagama Central College.

  Girl Guides in Action on World Thinking Day …

This year World Thinking Day was celebrated by the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association on Saturday, 20 February. Sponsored walks were held in all 9 provinces to commemorate World Thinking Day and raise awareness of the United Nations’ Millenium Development Goals (MDGs)
through the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts’ (WAGGGS) Global Action Theme (GAT).
